Welcome to the July, 2023 Harmony Way Newsletter!

We are in the central part of summer here in New England. Solstice has just passed. The days will become shorter from this point on in the year. However, it's still hot and humid a lot of the time and great weather for being by the water or in the forest, where it's a bit cooler.

The yearly openings for the Virtual Core Shamanic Healing and Counseling Training Program close soon! Applications for this program (more information below) are due by July 1st of each year. Classes run from September through June. This is life-changing work for many people.

Whatever your plans are for July, I hope you enjoy the sunshine and the beautiful plants with

peace and joy in your heart.

Trauma-Informed Yoga

(From: Hannah Uiri)

Trauma, whether it is physical, mental/emotional or spiritual, often gets stuck in the body and causes symptoms later in life. If we move, stretch and gently release that stored trauma, while allowing and processing feelings that arise as we do that, it can have a profound healing effect on the body and mind. This is a wonderful and gentle exercise video about this topic and one that you can do from the comfort of your own home or from

anywhere that you feel safe.

*Always check in with your medical health provider for advice and guidance before starting a new workout program, being mindful of any existing conditions or injuries that you have, discussing these with a qualified medical professional prior to trying any workout.

Mental Health Awareness

(From: NIMH)

What do you do for mental health self-care? Some people don't do anything. Others take daily steps to maintain their mental health and well-being or to begin or continue their healing journey. Since everyone has some type of trauma, examining our mental health with compassion and taking steps to maintain or improve it, while seeking support and education as necessary, can be highly beneficial to our overall quality of life. This article has many great tips and lots of information about how to care for our mental health.

This Month's Yummy Recipe:

White cake on cake stand covered in peonies and roses
Lemon Blueberry Cake Recipe

(From: The Banana Diaries)

Vegan, Soy-Free, Gluten-Free Option, Nut-Free

I recently prepared this cake...and it was terrific -- moist, not too sweet and scrumptious! I made my own frosting with my own recipe, but used the above one-bowl cake as a base. I would recommend a blueberry, lemon or vanilla frosting for this cake or even no frosting, if you prefer. The taste and texture was just the right amount of lemony-blueberry-deliciousness.

If you love a simple, refreshing and elegant cake flavor that comes together quickly in one bowl and goes well with many other flavors, this one is for you! I made it gluten-free, nut-free and soy-free and with wild Maine low-bush blueberries (my favorite kind). As a side bonus, in western herbalism, blueberries are generally considered to be a cooling, hydrating food, which is perfect for summer! If you bring this to a gathering, it will surely prove to be a hit.

PS Explore. It's so worth it to try something new!

We can explore new ideas, books, hobbies, forms of movement, foods, locations and much more. Exploring anything new expands your mind and heart and keeps life interesting.
